Hoboken, N.J. Mayor Dawn Zimmer revealed two more letters on Monday night that she said bolster her claim that Gov. Chris Christie's administration threatened to withhold hurricane relief money from her city unless she approved a real estate project.
Zimmer showed the letters, which she said she sent to Christie last year discussing her requests for relief money, during an interview on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360."
The first letter was dated April 23 and detailed some of her aid requests. In that letter, Zimmer told Christie funding "cannot be dependent on future development."
Zimmer said the letter was written before she had a conversation with Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno (R). Zimmer has alleged that Guadagno told her aid would be continent on real estate development. Still, Zimmer told Cooper the letter was proof she was made to believe there was a connection between the two.

The second letter Zimmer revealed on the show was sent to Christie on May 8. In that letter Zimmer described being "stunned" that Hoboken had not received more aid.

(280 posts)Did Zimmer send the letters by e-mail, as it appears with photos attached? "Plausible denial" is what the Christie crowd will come up with, 'duh, ....never saw them'.

I love this line:
In that letter, Zimmer told Christie funding "cannot be dependent on future development."

(3,696 posts)To me it's pretty clear that there had been some talk previously about her refusal to approve the development. Best case reading for Christie is that she only "thought" that funding would be contingent on her moving forward with the development and even that is damning when you consider she got very little of the requested funding.

(7,403 posts)And today she gave us the buns so the sandwich is now complete. I wondered about the way Guadagno worded her ultimatum to Zimmer and these two letters provide the context so it now makes perfect sense. It is compelling now and no wonder the US Attorney is so interested in this case. It could not be more damning. Both the Governor and Lt. Governor have legal problems here. And since this all happened before the lane closures on the GWB it provides the backdrop for that action as well and it is not pretty. Sorry you won't ever get to use the Taft bathtub Christie.

(10,252 posts)Just put it all out there on the table, even those months when you were trying to "play nice." Hey you didn't do anything criminally wrong. Well maybe you were a few months tardy with bringing this corruption to a prosecutor. But hey, I personally don't hold that against you. Probably not a crime anyway. Just put it all out there. Let the chips fall where they will. I believe you. I support you fighting the good fight against organized political corruption. Let's break their back!
