The Catholic Church has made a lot of mistakes, and you can't expect a religion to be reasonable, but Pope Francis is making more sense than a lot of religious leaders.

"We can live together".

And the Governor's response...

Well, we all know how that turned out.

Psychotic Elite behavior----The Koch Bros political tricks anbd environmental impact (fracking/ruining groundwater,
fighting solar&wind, the lie of "clean coal", etc).

War metaphors could also work.

And on and on...

Good Art, in a politically Lame Society.

James 5: 1-6.
New International Version (NIV)
Warning to Rich Oppressors

5 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.[a] 6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

James was a threat to the rich and powerful because he was on the side of the poor. That's probably why he was executed. Not much has changed.

Read Reza Aslan's "Zealot."

His other book, "No God But God" is also a good read.

they could do. Sure, they would have to sell the trappings of riches, and perhaps live in a modest house among "regular" people, but just imagine: the sheer joy one could get out of levering all your assets and turning them for good. Perhaps helping the planet he has done his best to destroy. Or helping a worker's family not live in poverty or fear. Or sending kids to college or starting a college where tuition is free forever. Just stopping actively doing evil would be a start.

But using all that money for good would be an orgasmic burst of joy. Instead, each one of them already lives in hell. Because they can't see it...can't even begin to contemplate it...no need to wait for death to pay you back.

Pope Francis (from his radio address): Corruption is 'varnished putrefaction' of whitewashed tomb

''There is difference between being a sinner and being corrupt. Those who sin and repent, who ask for forgiveness, are humble before the Lord. But those who continue to sin, while pretending to be Christian, lead a double life, they are corrupt.

''A Christian who is a benefactor, who gives to the Church with one hand, but steals with the other hand from the country, from the poor, is unjust. And Jesus says: “It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea”. This is because, that person is deceitful, and where there is deceit, the Spirit of God cannot be.

''We should all call ourselves sinners but those who are corrupt do not understand humility. Jesus called them whitewashed tombs: they appear beautiful, from the outside, but inside they are full of dead bones and putrefaction. And a Christian who boasts about being Christian, but does not lead a Christian life, is corrupt.''

The Vatican itself owns vast hoards of investment vehicles of all kinds, including some of the world's most expensive, high end, purely commercial real estate housing banks and luxury good purveyors in wealthy areas of each major city.
So Francis collects all of those rents.
Poverty can not be addressed without access to birth control and family planning, which Francis is opposed to. So his lip service as a billionaire who opposes the real paths to economic justice rings sort of false.
Very wealthy man, controls billions. Claims the rich are those other people, not himself and the Princes of the Church. He owns much of Bond Street in London, for example. But he's not rich. It's others who are rich......
