Big Dem turnout in blizzard to hold VA Senate

NOTE: I see Terry Mac and Team Clinton's hand in this. Good work!

Despite some voter confusion and the arrival of a significant snowstorm, vote tallies across Virginia’s 33rd Senate District appeared on track to meet or even exceed the 15 percent turnout rate predicted for Tuesday’s special election, officials said.

In Loudoun County, more than 13 percent of eligible voters had cast ballots by 2 p.m. in the race to fill the Senate seat vacated by Attorney General Mark R. Herring, according to Loudoun Registrar Judy Brown. Some of the county’s eastern precincts reported particularly high turnout rates, between 14 and 19 percent, she said, and other large precincts had yet to report their numbers — representing hundreds of voters who were not yet included in the total.

“It’s certainly surprising,” Brown said. “Once we heard the prediction of bad weather, usually you see that people just aren’t interested enough to come out. But I guess the campaigns have done a good job of convincing people that it’s important to be out to vote.”

The majority of the 33rd Senate District falls in Loudoun County, with 10 precincts also open in Fairfax. By 2 p.m., the Fairfax polls were reporting nearly 15 percent turnout, according to Brian Schoeneman, secretary of the Fairfax County Electoral Board.

Which Reverend Barber said would not just be about the state that they had the demonstrations in. He said they had gone into the next phase, a national movement.

Not reported by media, as usual, anymore than the invisible millions who O'Really lamented showing up in November 2012 that media did not expect to care enough to brave the intimidation and jump through all the hoops the GOP set up.

This may well foretell a good 2014, but we can't be complacent as these were hard fought races in Virginia and will be everywhere.

We don't want to lose the Senate. And the House could easily be ours again with some smart campaigning. But, today all Tweety could talk about was the race for President in 2016. Jumping the gun I say.

power in D.C. or in the states. They have proven themselves extreme regressives and are barraging the air waves in many placea with even worse disinformation than ever. There is no news coverage, only holding back matters of importance. We are going to go from one crisis of government after another arranged by the Koches and their long term planning. They and their party the GOP have eaten the government in all its branches like locusts and want it out of the way altogether. They have plans, the money and the organization. We can't stop because they won't stop.

Keep Democrats looking at 2016, so they don't show up in 2014.

For those Democrats talking about 2014, do everything in your power to turn it into a intra-party food fight.

That doesn't sound like a plan designed by Democrats to promote the Democratic Congressional wave in 2014 needed to actually get something done with respect to jobs, income inequity, climate-change, or anything else that Democrats and the Left claim to want.

search or count the number of "HILLARY! HILLARY! HILLARY!"/Not HILLARY! HILLARY! HILLARY!" threads ... and more pressing to my point, look at the responses one receives to any GOTV 2014 threads.

Democrat Jennifer Wexton bested two veteran Loudoun County politicians Tuesday night to earn a seat in the Senate of Virginia ... Tuesday's election wasn't even close. With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Ms. Wexton led Mr. Whitbeck 53 percent to 37 percent. Mr. May had garnered nearly 10 percent of the vote ... While the 40-member state Senate is now split evenly between the two parties – assuming Democrat Lynwood Lewis holds his own special election victory through a recount in Virginia's 6th Senate district – Democrats hold the tie-breaking vote with recently elected Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam ...
