Where I am going with this is stats change over time. Is the favored party affiliation for the retired crowd morphing over time? I am a lib, and the closer I get to retirement, the more staunchly lib I am. Reps would never ever in a millions years get a vote from me. Is that a trend? Is the national Democratic voters staying democratic in their golden years into the 21st century?

(21,144 posts)I get pissed thinking how the greatest generation got the new deal, gi bill, unions, middle class and affordable higher education who have homes, pensions and social security started the Reagan revolution which ended the beginning of the end of upper mobility and the middle class. These are the old farts watching fox and voting in mid terms upset that a black man was elected president.
Every year I go to Sun City AZ to visit ( my liberal in laws) they retired there for the lower cost and to live near one of their children. I wonder what will happen to those retirement communities because we baby boomers won't be able to retire like that and live a leisure lifestyle?

(51,457 posts)If one was 30-44 in 1980, then those people would be 64-78 today. They voted 55 to 38% for Reagan and made up 31% of all votes cast. Whereas, the Greatest Generation, who were born in the 1920s and would have been in the 60 and over category, voted 55 to 41% for Reagan and only accounted for 18% of the vote.

You are talking about less than 50% of those people because less than 50% ever vote.

(21,144 posts)What was I saying is look at the group who is voting republican now. I am a baby boomer and knew no one who voted for Reagan but those Reagan democrats were from the greatest generation and they voted for that nice actor ronald Reagan.
