This quaint Roman Catholic Church located in the Czech Republic is known as the Cemetery Church of All Saints. The name is a little strange for a church, but straightforward. And literal. Thats because, once you step inside the church, youll see the bones from 40,000 70,000 people adorning the walls. Thousands of human bodies are hanging from the walls, ceilings and fixtures inside of this church.
Lots of the bodies were buried in the cemetery during the plague in the 14th century.
In the 1400s, a church was built on top of the cemetery and all of the bones were exhumed and put in the ossuary below.

(209 posts)people in the dark ages, even up to the 1800's, were much more in touch with death than we are now. I think it's pretty cool actually, very gothic. Wonder if they have any cool ceremonies or holidays there - it would be uber creepy-cool to be in that place in the dark with candles lit.... but I'm a twisted soul...

(38,311 posts)The deal is you rest for awhile in a place many others have occupied. Later your bones end up in the ossuary.
Haven't yet decided where I want to be dead, probably in the Pacific Ocean as food for the fishes, or cremated and dumped in the ocean if family is not comfortable with fish food. Ashes in an organic garden would be okay too. Or Soylent Green fed to the last remaining polar bears or arctic wolves on some wealthy and eccentric trillionaire's Northern estate.
Ashes cast into a concrete stepping stones decorated by great grandchildren would be interesting too.
Okay. I want to be ART or FOOD or FERTILIZER when I'm dead! Recycle me!
All those people in that church lucked out, as much as anyone can be "lucky" to be dead. They are art.
