Did Reid work for PrezO?

Joy Reid has been the managing editor of TheGrio.com and msnbc contributor since July 2011. She’s also been a frequent substitute host on MSNBC during all dayparts. Reid is a political columnist for The Miami Herald and editor of the politics blog The Reid Report. Reid has worked in television and radio news since 1998 and her columns have appeared in a variety of outlets including Salon.com.

Farrow was a foreign policy official in the first Obama administration. He founded the State Department’s Office of Global Youth Issues and reported to the Secretary of State as the United States’ first Special Adviser for Global Youth during the Arab Spring revolutions. He also served for two years as a U.S. diplomat focused on the conflict in Afghanistan and Pakistan. A lawyer and a Rhodes Scholar, Farrow has written about human rights and foreign policy outlets including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Los Angeles Times.

I know that she is an outspoken defender.

Here's from her bio:

In 2004, she took a break from media to serve as state deputy communications director for America Coming Together, which registered 50,000 voters in Florida, and in 2008, she worked on South Florida urban media outreach for the Barack Obama presidential campaign.

MSNBC is decidedly on the side of the whims of the network suits. And often against the interests of truth and accuracy. To wit: Phil Donahue. Keith Olbermann. Martin Bashir.

Your assessment is narrow. Those who are critical of biased reporting are "decidedly anti-Obama"? Fox News watchers?

I really think you can be more objective than that.

your source for "news". They are "the place for politics". And in the case of MSNBC, most of them champion those politics from the left. That they don't meet your special criteria makes them even more relevant, IMHO.

Like I said, it may not be the place for you. That's why there are so many networks. It's called "choices". And FWIW, Joy is an excellent addition to the lineup, and I don't particularly give a crap who she's "worked for", and if a previous employer just happens to be the sitting US president, so much the better.

Because I don't have much use for synchophants of any stripe, or for those who will pull punches in fear of their jobs.

I used to watch MSNBC four or five hours a day. That viewing time has shrunk as Phil has cut the truth tellers one by one. Why should I support a corporate-first network?

These days I might watch Alex Wagner occasionally, or Ari Berman. Both smart and classy. Otherwise, my news comes from the Internet. I don't need opinions from pundits/news readers. I need truth and facts.

This thread was about Joy Reid joining MSNBC as a host. Most on this thread seem elated about that. And btw, I don't believe I griped about the Obama administration at all. You are putting words in my mouth. I griped about MSNBC hosts being too close to a POTUS to be fully objective. And I meant ANY POTUS. That goes for Tweety, and Scarborough, and all of them.

Your quote from the guardian:

"The path between activist and journalist is a road people have tried unsuccessfully for years"

Actually that is not a fair statement at all.

There is also a middle road between people who believe in government transparency and those who say our party can do no wrong.

But go ahead, everyone, feel free to pile on. I think Greenwald and others have a right to tell truth whether pleasant or not.

I very much resent the remarks about cultists and feel some should look in the mirror before attacking me.

...Reid’s news show, which is still being staffed, came as more of a surprise. It will launch at 2 p.m., where (Tamron) Hall has presided for the past three years.

Reid, a 44-year-old graduate of Harvard and, until now, a contributor to the cable network, is, along with Hall and Rev. Al Sharpton, one of three African-American hosts on MSNBC’s week-day lineup. She will give up her duties as managing editor of the TheGrio.com, MSNBC’s black-oriented web site, to anchor full-time.

“Joy is a really thoughtful journalist and analyst, and she’s found real success on this network,” Griffin told The Daily Beast. “She’s formidable on-air and very smart. She fits our sensibility and our audience really connects with her. She’s a natural.

"Ronan Farrow, son of Mia Farrow, is also getting a show, to launch on the same day. But I have never seen so many tweets over the past year begging Phil Griffin, head of MSNBC, to give Joy Reid her own show. And I agree with all of them. She is really terrific

Best of luck, Joy! You deserve this, and we'll be watching. Her debut is Feb. 24 at 2pm ET."

Triple Kudos to MSNBC for giving her a slot.

She is amazing in the way she is very quick thinker, knows history, context and does not suffer fools.

All the very best success Joy!

Maybe we'll get to see Steve Kornacki move "up" to head an investigative team of TV journalists.

I think if Al Gore would have crammed his programming with the likes of Reid, Hayes,Maddow, Kornacki, and more....he might still have a progressive network....

It's been a while since we had a GG brawl here. I got posts hidden just for using variations of his name.

108. Is there a rule I don't know about? Are we not supposed to mention his name here now?

If that is true there should be something posted somewhere about it.

107. Is one a "follower" if they defend him against such ugly insults?

Just wondering.

You are painting a lot of us as being "followers" and rolling on the floor laughing about it.

That is a big problem now. There are so many journalists and now posters here who are under the bus that there will never be one big enough for us all.

Why all the insults?

109. Once you start ridiculing those who differ with you, you shut down intelligent discussion.

That's kind of sad to me. I am used to the ridicule here, but it is a tactic that stifles thought.

Still won't make me watch the channel.

I only get political news from one source, and I choose DU. I can't watch MSNBC because it's like it's preaching to the choir and it stresses me out.

they don't have the typical big media perosnality . but when you listen to them it's like listening to someone you know and trust. almost like someone you know personally.
