(90,674 posts)It's very thorough, and covers his political history very well. Like a lot of idealists in the 1930s--1940s, he was affiliated with the Communist Party for awhile. He and the rest of The Weavers were blacklisted for a number of years, had some really tough times, almost went to prison for refusing to give the HUAC so much as the time of day.
By gods, Pete outlived them all. Even got to sing at Obama's first inaugural.
The NYT article really is good, and several posts have linked it; sorry I can't go back and forth on my iPad mini so you'll have to locate it yourself.
