http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/01/28/984-credit-card-scam/4957837/If you see a $9.84 charge on your credit card statement, give it a hard look.
The Better Business Bureau says scammers are charging stolen credit card numbers for a small amount of money, and many recent victims were billed $9.84. The scammers believe few cardholders will review such a small amount -- and that credit card companies won't aggressively investigate them, either, the bureau says.
Gerri Detweiler, director of consumer education at Credit.com, tells USA TODAY that cardholders too often overlook small charges.
"It can be a lot easier for a crook to steal small amounts from thousands of customers than large amounts from a few," Detweiler says. "This kind of theft can be extremely easy since it's unlikely to raise red flags."

This happened to me a few years ago. I had 3 or 4 charges for $2.70. I didn't catch it until they had cleaned out my account. Now, I check my balance daily.
I'm so glad you shared that. Looks like I'll start doing the same thing.

I went to the ATM several years on payday. I knew something was going on that most of the $ were not in the balance. I called Marta wondering what happened. She had no idea either. She called the credit union. They said an online clothing purchase that was to be shipped out of the US had been placed. We caught it early enough that it didn't ship. And the address would be monitored by police.
Twice little amount showed up in France a couple years apart. Had to go through the Visa dispute process. We have never been to Europe. It was entered by hand, not swiped. Both times we won.
I check our balances everyday. We got F'd by Travelocity and caught it right away. Long story there. They lied to the investigator. I still had the original email. It was what saved my butt. Because they outright lied, we got the full charge back. The vendors still got paid by Travelocity.
