Christine Whitman former NJ Gov: "It's Hard For Me To Phrase This Politely: Sometimes Republicans...

Whitman said Huckabee’s remark, as well as Tuesday's scheduled vote on anti-abortion legislation, reaffirms what people see as the party's "condescending attitude toward women."

"It's hard for me to phrase this politely: Sometimes Republicans think that just putting a woman up front means somehow that women are going to feel good about the party," Whitman said. "It is not about the messenger. It's about the message. And until we figure that one out -- while it's nice that we have a woman as a spokesperson -- if the message itself doesn't get changed a bit, it's not going to work."

Let's hope that her party doesn't figure this out before the elections of 2014 and 2016.

About republicans when they talk of women that reminds me of something my grandma told her granddaughters.

Something like, "Chances are the guy that puts you on a pedestal did it to look up your skirt."

I've probably massacred it, but it was something like that.

But Christine, that's the beauty of the Republican party. They never change. The message will never change. It hasn't changed in a hundred years and if it did it wouldn't be "conservative." So yes it's not going to work. Even with Fox propaganda it becomes harder and harder to convince people to vote against their own self interest. The reason it's hard for you to phrase your criticism politely is that you are essentially telling the Republicans they are dinosaurs, doomed to extinction.

by borrowing money for the operating budget. She had to balance the budget by borrowing because her tax cuts depleted the operating budget. What did Bill Clinton call it? Oh yeah, arithmetic.
It's magical thinking, at best, to believe cutting revenue increases revenue.

Whitman said the party "would never consider me" for such a high-profile speech today.

"Those who control the levers today are more extreme than I am," she said. "They're far to the right of me and don't consider me a Republican."

It's astonishing how far right the country has gone - and not just the Republicans.
