The system is corrupted because in the two party system we have, there are too many corrupt republicans in office. It isn't because there are too many corrupt Democrats. But the few bad Democrats is all some of you focus on?
It seems your message is: A few bad Democrats is why we are screwed.
Yeah, average Joe gets it. So he votes for the republicans who say that very same thing: A few bad Democrats is why we are screwed.
Time to change our message, eh?
What is our message? Because this one: "A few bad Democrats" ain't working.

(142 posts)The Republicans are more unabashed about this corruption, because it meshes perfectly with their ideology and political base. But you're kidding yourself if you think Democrats at every level aren't implicated - including perfectly well-intentioned people who have to go along with the system just to raise enough campaign funds to stay in office. Personalizing the issue by boiling it down to "a few bad Democrats" or "lots of bad Republicans" just obscures the real crisis, which is that our democracy is drowning in money.

(13,685 posts)Oh the hell I can't boil it down.
Jimmy Carter got unelected because he just wasn't good enough. So we got ray-gun who opened up the politics to big money.
Then Al Gore wasn't good enough so we got bush who flooded politics with big money.
Jimmy Carter for a second term and Gore instead of bush and a lot of you would have only a Democrat dog catcher some could complain about.
That's boiled down reality. All the rest is pissing in the wind: "If we only had better Democrats".

Is because he stopped the fight after the corrupt SCOTUS ruling.
Black box voting and Ohio corruption did Kerry in. He did not fight it at all.

(13,685 posts)How was it stolen? Because it was too damn close. And the party did not support Gore because "He just wasn't good enough". You can deny that all you want, but the reality is the power of the people put bush in office and allowed him to stay there.
Why did the people allow bush to stay in office so long? Because the bush message was clear: "Democrats are bad people". 75% of the people were saying the same thing.
I'm with the 25% who see the Truth.

He allowed the election to be too damn close.

(142 posts)I said the corruption is systemic and it affects both parties, even if one party is worse. Ignoring this situation in favor of rah-rah "go team" politics will not make it go away. Nor will it make people who feel strongly about the issue feel better about voting for Democratic politicians.

(13,685 posts)It is called history. It's called the process that got us to where we are today.
I've done a lot of street level politics. The rah-rah go team message works. The "woe-is-me, my party sucks" message does not work.

(142 posts)And I'm well aware of the history - thank you for that piece of condescension.
By all means, go out and spread the "go team" message. What I am trying to explain to you is that your simplistic messaging does not capture the real complexity of the situation, and the challenges to changing it even if Democrats win in November. And I'm not going to begin parroting some party line just because it "works."

(142 posts)The Democrats fall too often under the sway of plutocrats. The Republicans are the party of plutocracy. I do acknowledge the difference.

The average Joe sees that and laughs. And repeats to himself pretty much the same thing as what he hears some Democrats say: "It's all Obama's fault."
How's that working out for ya, Liberal America?

(13,685 posts)The average Joe wants to hear it is all Obama's fault. So when he hears all the republicans and half the democrats saying that, he hears it and it rings true to him.
It is that simple. It is reality. Time we changed our message, eh?
Here's a change: With more Democrats in office, things always improve.
You like that message?
