Fox News host: Women don’t want equal pay, they already get ‘exactly what they’re worth’

It's pregnancy, you see. 71 cents on the dollar compared to men is to account for all that pregnancy leave.

“Women get paid exactly what they’re worth,” MacCallum declared.

“Exactly what they’re worth?” Colmes exclaimed. “Are they not worth the same amount of money for the same job as men?”

“They are worth a heck of a lot,” the Fox News host remarked.

Carlson accused Colmes of being angry at the “biological reality” that women were paid less because they had to take time off work for pregnancies.

WTF?

Now I do NOT like comparing a race/gender on their income inequality and making a blanket statement that something is unfair.

Do women go into fields traditionally lower paid?

The real comparison is find what men and women make in the exact same field. That's where your problem is. However, if a women who goes into social work (a tremendously awesome field where you make very little), you can hardly compare her with a man who is in a non-comparable profession.

It allows women to have knowlege of the pay men around them receive doing the same job. Before, women had no way of knowing how much Joe Blow made, and the Supreme Court ruled that when Lilly found out that she was receiving lower pay than every man around here doing the same exact job, she had no recourse because she had worked for years without knowing and so, because of the amount of time gone by she had no recourse.. Republicans voted against allowing them to know immediately what everyone in their field was making...

How trite.

In many progressive countries, men get paternity leave right along side women's maternity leave.

The company I worked for was a UK based firm. It was awesome to be at home with my daughter for the first two weeks of her life.

In Sweden, in fact, the amount of parental leave is shortened if the father does not take a certain percentage of it. I believe it is now up to about 16 months at about 80% of salary subject to a cap. Parents can take the time as needed up to time the child reaches age 8.

We punish women for being mothers. Most "civilized" countries understand the importance of parental care and encourage if not entice, as Sweden, fathers to participate.
