Looks like we've been hit by the $9.84 scam...

After seeing a link to this story via social media, I decided to check our accounts. We were cleaned out six months ago on our primary joint checking account; so I am constantly keeping tabs on our account activity.

Turns out, we've fallen victim.
Again.
Three times actually.

Keep an eye on your financial accounts, folks ...it's happening more and more frequently.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -Be on the lookout for a recent $9.84 charge on your debit or credit card. It might be part of a massive, worldwide scam.

4. it's a fake charge for an internet service that you didn't order

"When CNNMoney placed a call to those numbers, an operator explained that the $9.84 charge was for a "money-making online program" that came with access to videos and tutorials on how to work from home.

"If they really don't like online service, we will give them the full refund," the operator assured."

I'm guessing that they got stolen credit card info and used it to run the charge through. They pick a small, odd amount hoping that most people won't notice.

9. It's a small-potato amount that most people would not bother to question

especially if you use your debit card at many places. Most people would definitely notice a large amount.

As a scammer, you would be better off taking 9.84 from 1000 people, than taking 9K from one person
