By changing the perspective, we shift the dynamic...FACT: Children are affected by adoption. We believe that children are affected by adoption in a way that has never been openly shared before. There is a community of intercountry and domestic adoptees and parents (of loss) who care about the lives of children after the adoption transaction. We are it. We care so much that were taking a stand, acknowledging the losses, supporting each other, and crossing boundaries around the world through a book called Adoptionland: From Orphans to Activists.

A worldwide revelation has occurred: We are much more than the industry professionals presumed us to be. Revelations lead to Revolutions: Children have a right to know and have access to our own families of birth. All humans, including orphans sent to foreign homes to be adopted, have a right to first family, heritage, lineage and ancestry. Revolutions lead to Retribution: We deserve justice. It is time to explore unchartered territories. We lead ourselves

(19,053 posts)~and these issues need to be discussed. I grew up being made to believe that there was something wrong with me for longing for my own history, genealogy, ancestry. I was made to feel that I was somehow betraying my wonderful adoptive parents when seeking answers that I am entitled to.
The Big Hush. It hurts. Its time to talk.

(2,063 posts)An excellent book about the women who got pregnant in the baby scoop era before Roe v Wade.
It's a book that definitely changed my perspective about adoption. While adoption is great for a few, it is also an industry that is overly and wrongfully romanticized by our society.
