Snow emergencies declared in Minneapolis, St. Paul, suburbs
An ill-timed snow storm caused headaches and havoc on Twin Cities roads during Thursdays morning commute. Minneapolis, St. Paul and some suburbs declared snow emergencies.
Twin Cities commuters were walloped by a quickly accumulating snowfall Thursday morning that spawned countless crashes, caused significant transit delays and triggered snow emergencies in Minneapolis, St. Paul and several suburbs.
The scene on southbound Interstate 35 at Hwy. 8 in Forest Lake resembled a demolition derby at a time when the morning commute is usually winding down. Highway cameras showed scores of vehicles that crashes, including one left tangled in the median cable barrier.

I think I should print the article and send it to Governor Deal of Georgia with this part highlighted:
Minneapolis and St. Paul each declared a snow emergency. Both take effect at 9 p.m. Thursday, putting vehicle owners on notice to get out of the way so plows can do their work. Suburbs such as Plymouth, Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Golden Valley and Robbinsdale have done the same.
Do you think he would consider it?

(30,151 posts)Georgia is a good size state, it's something handled by mayors and municipalities...
If we were talking Rhode Island it might be a different story since one cloud can cover the whole state LOL

(12,041 posts)This kind of thing is common here however, we have had several days of nasty road conditions this year. I am fortunate that I have a lot of vacation time built up and we are in our slow season at work so I have the luxury of deciding not to go in on days like this.

(12,041 posts)There is not a no travel advisory as far as I know so they are not telling people to stay indoors, but many of us stay indoors anyways because we all knows how bad the traffic gets on days like today. A snow emergency has more to do with parking than it does with travel, when a snow emergency is declared you can't park on the side of the streets they are plowing or you will get towed.
Atlanta's situation is worse than ours however, we have about six inches of snow which sucks to drive in but they have an inch of ice and ice is far worse to drive on than snow. They should have really put a no travel advisory into effect.
