Product.

I've just been taking it easy this afternoon and watching "The Island" with Scarlett Johannson and Ewan McGregor. Dystopian movies are a genre that I view upon occasion. This particular one deals with pushing science to past the the mark in "product" development. I know the movie came out in 2005 but if, like me, you have never seen it before, I don't want to give the plot away. Anyway, my point in posting this is to note that the thought which crosses my mind during these films is that you can easily envision some twisted idiot in the world who would conceive of an application that could take the world to dark places, achievable or not, and wallow in the profit. "Product"....the engine that drives the Big Machine.

You want something you can charge waaaay more for than it costs to produce. So at the limit, you want to sell some thing worthless for everything people have. The more worthless what you sell, and the more it sells for, the more successful you will be. Commercial software comes to mind, and drugs both legal and illegal. Anything made of plastic. Most politicians.

What annoys me most about our politicans is not that they sell out, but that they sell out so cheap.

What was going on in the movie looked pretty expensive, but they can charge all you got for it too I suppose.

And yeah, it's all around us, that kind of thinking.
