SECAUCUS Thousands of passengers arriving from New York to the Secaucus Junction transfer station for the train to Super Bowl XLVIII vented their outrage at the overcrowded trains and stifling heat.
"New Jersey sucks," some people shouted as they came off the New York trains. Many had peeled off coats and other outer layers of clothing, and were drenched in sweat from the high temperatures in the packed train cars.
People related stories of passengers passing out and paramedics being called in to help.
Security officers at first were checking every bag, but by 2:45 p.m., more than three hours before the game, checkpoints were overwhelmed by the crowds and people they were pouring through with little or no examination of what was on their person or what they were carrying.
John Durso, spokesman for NJ Transit, said earlier today that large crowds had formed hours before the first train was to leave Secaucus.

@janesports:
Host committee head Al Kelly was asked about Secaucus junction during press conference this week. So clearly some anticipated this.

(9,462 posts)Christie killed a train project to link Manhattan to New Jersey. Although the project was underway, Christie said the cost would be too great to NJ taxpayers. Turns out he was lying. That was proven in a study released about a year later. I hope Steve's show and this train debacle brings the issue back to light. Specifically, the part about Christie lying and how he had larger plans that involved his buddies and were contingent on Samson being head of Transit Authority.

(20,733 posts)In america, if there's enough money invlved, we'll create an unsafe situation, rake in the money, and then let an innocent underling lose his/her job as the "solution."
A couple of heads will roll if anything happens tonight, but no one will suggest changing the actual hype and mania that creates money for so many. This is not a natural disaster, but it has all the makings of a tragedy, just for our mutual entertainment.
I seriously hope no one is hurt.
