John Elway to Fox News: I知 Republican because 選 don稚 believe in safety nets

Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway revealed on Sunday that he was a Republican because he doesn’t “believe in safety nets” — even though he admitted they were necessary.

In a interview on Fox News prior to Super Bowl XLVIII, host Chris Wallace pointed out that Elway was a “big Republican” who had contributed “a lot of money” to former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in 2012.

“Why do you support the GOP?” Wallace wondered.

“Well, it goes to what my beliefs are,” Elway explained. “I believe that we’re giving the opportunity to succeed or not succeed.”

“I don’t believe in safety nets,” he continued. “Obviously, we’ve got to have some kind of safety nets. But I think my philosophy is when given the opportunity to go take advantage of that, I think that’s when you get the best out of people.

Don't you love it when people of privilege muse about things over which they have absolutely no knowledge or experience.

If John Elway had to live like most Americans for even a couple of weeks he's be bawling' like a baby.

“Well, it goes to what my beliefs are,” Elway explained. “I believe that we’re giving the opportunity to succeed or not succeed.”

He believes in something that is just not true for all people.

There are those who never, ever get the opportunity to begin with, and it is smug assholes like Elway who just can't fathom that fact.

"So, I would like to see us to be able to free up Congress a little bit and say, okay, we need to give up a little bit to give a little bit,” Elway opined. “If we were able to do that and we acted more like businessmen in that situation, I believe we would get a lot more done.”

but if I were rich as all get out I would still want there to be no poor people littering up the streets and dying outside, Hospitals running a deficit, schools teaching hungry children etc etc, if only because I wanted to look out on a pretty world where people were clean, well fed and happy. So what is the matter with republicans, randians, and Elway???

Mon Feb 3, 2014, 06:39 AM
Feb 2014

He says he doesn't believe in safety nets but feels we obviously have to have some kind of safety net. Like what? And what kind of safety nets are no good?

No safety net means someone really down on their luck has the roam the streets, can't stay in one spot anywhere unless its a public library. Can't sleep nowhere, not legally. People get desperate and that ends up costing more. If he's OK w/ shelters or transitional living

Food stamps? That benefits the economy, grocery stores, multiplier effect.

Welfare? I don't know how that works and I don't know anyone on welfare and I know lots of poor people.

Vast majority that have some safety net of some kind end up improving their situation. A lot of us don't have a parent to teach us a lucrative trade like a college football coach and work whatever jobs that pay. I know places are hiring all the time like cab companies here, I can't think of anything that is like being a professional gambler without being a professional gambler.

John Elway endorses Romney

"Governor Romney is a proven leader with the experience and background to turn around our struggling economy," Elway said in a release sent out by the Romney campaign Monday.

This endorsement comes as no surprise to many. Elway introduced the candidate at a rally Monday at Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum.

Elway has been helping the Romney campaign and the Republican party for some time. The Starboard Group has been sending out emails from Elway that reads in part:

"There are only 39 days until the November Election! I hope you'll join me in sending a clear message that Mitt Romney is the best candidate to serve as our next President," Elway said in a campaign email sent this weekend.
