That way, I can piss off lots of people with one simple, delicious act!
I will piss off the conservatives, because I am supporting a company that allows non-Anglos in their commercials, and I will piss off the hair-on-fire anti-capitalists and the health nuts who want to control other people's choices.
That's what I call a win-win!

(5,169 posts)Was it the overall Coca Cola Inc., or an individual bottler?
Seriously, this is intriguing. Can you fill me in? Links, books? How high up did the order come from? Has Pepsi done anything like that? What about Cadbury-Schwepps? Who makes Jones Soda, and are their hands clean?
Ultimately, I want to go SodaStream with an aftermarket CO2 setup, but I hear they are made by an Israeli company, so we are supposed to boycott them.

(12,723 posts)For someone who normally eats 2,000 calories daily, even consuming two 12-ounce cans of soda substantially increases the risk.
Yang and colleagues analyzed national health surveys between 1988 and 2010 that included questions about people's diets. The authors used national death data to calculate risks of dying during 15 years of follow-up.
Overall, more than 30,000 American adults aged 44 on average were involved.
I guess their little commercial had the effect they wanted.

(5,169 posts)Based on family history, I could eat a pot roast a day and I will probably make it to 90.
As for the commercial - it's not going to make me do anything that I would not have done anyhow, except to give me something to zing some xenophobes with.

kentauros
(29,414 posts)Because that's made with cane sugar instead of HFCS. Also, most of the ones I've seen in convenience stores are in the half-liter size.
So, it's more than win-win. You win by it being Coke, by it being Mexican, by it using cane sugar, by it being metric, and by it pissing off conservatives.
Win-Win-Win-Win-Win!

(42,239 posts)Must confess that if I'm actually going to drink something fizzy and sot it most likely to be Coca Cola.
I do miss those old machines that dispensed the twirly glass bottles - don't seem to taste the same out of metal or plastic whatever.

(10,000 posts)To read posts here, one would think that a sizable segment of DU is made of of Sterling Haydens in "Dr. Strangelove" -- all of them only drinking pure spring water and grain alcohol to avoid having their purity-of-essence sullied.
Perhaps DUers generally should consider that there's another segment of DU that doesn't welcome lectures on healthy diets.

(13,059 posts)Most experts agree that sugared sodas represent a major health problem. It's not a matter of lecturing others about it. But when we have an OP advocating drinking Coke then the topic is fair game as far as I'm concerned.
OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)Red meat, Scotch whiskey, Kentucky bourbon, cigarettes, tanning beds, saltwater taffy .. you really don't want me to list the whole million. Most experts agree a whole bunch of things are a major health problem. Most of us knew that these things were bad for us before the experts said anything.
Coca Cola put together a tribute to American multiculturalism. A bunch of Teabaggers have chosen to piss on it, and then paint themselves as victims because "...all liberals ever do when someone disagrees with them is call us racist." Yep-- that's the depth of their thought. That's the story here, and the OP is simply stating in a roundabout way that he supports their efforts.
If one doesn't like sugared soda, by all means, don't drink them. Not happy with a company's politics? Hey - don't do business with them if that makes you feel better.

now lets all forget the death squads and their buying up water rights all over the country or destroying whole towns in India for sucking up every last drop from their local water supplies or they basically using strong armed tactics to push their watery mixture in 3rd countries.

(5,169 posts)The Vashta Nerada were microscopic beings that lived in swarms, thousands strong. Individually, Vashta Nerada were not a threat. They were very small; the Tenth Doctor claimed that some of the dust specks visible in bright sunlight were single Vashta Nerada or small swarms, not large enough to be a threat to most life. In large numbers, they could strip a creature to its bare bones in milliseconds.

I like a good cold pop every now and again, but I usually drink coffee, iced tea, limeade, or water. Sometimes an Arizona Cherry Lime Rickey (with a hard boiled egg) or Arizona RX Energy.
