Adobe releases critical emergency update for Flash Player
Lucian Constantin Feb 4, 2014 http://www.pcworld.com/article/2094220/adobe-releases-critical-emergency-update-for-flash-player.html
The vulnerability could allow an attacker to remotely take control of an affected system, Adobe said in a security advisory published Tuesday.
The vulnerability is identified as CVE-2014-0497 on the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures list and is classified as an integer underflow. It can be exploited to execute arbitrary code on the system.
"Adobe is aware of reports that an exploit for this vulnerability exists in the wild, and recommends users update their product installations to the latest versions.
The company released Flash Player 12.0.0.44 for Windows and Mac and 11.2.202.336 for Linux. The Flash Player versions included in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 10 and 11 will be automatically updated through the respective update mechanisms of those browsers.

(68,644 posts)I consider them to be malicious software.
I disabled them immediately/ Had to install Firefox before I could close Explorer though. there is a problem doing that too because some of the functions for pictures are tied to that platform... which sucks.
Guess I better get it together with the patch...
later.

(15,262 posts)because it runs all the time as part of the desktop and that allows malware an entre.
Thanks. I missed that part and get annoyed when I try to look at my pictures and the IE crap pops up.

I can remember when Google first came out (I'd used yahoo, excite, and Alta Vista before that) and it would do a search quickly and when you clicked on a result, it went right to that URL.
These days, it's much slower due to, I suspect, Google analytics and the data mining that goes on.
If your browser is set to show the URL that links go to before you click, you'll see that Google results don't go directly to the site. And it slows everything down.
Example, a search for Democratic Underground shows us as the first hit.
But when you click on it you don't go directly to the site, the link is longer:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCoQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.democraticunderground.com%2F&ei=GnryUtDyJ9HCoAT06IH4Bg&usg=AFQjCNEOCbW9PoMHchsdTbb__tDvyNKzAw&sig2=ln3mpalVRu7Z91HmybLLng
Now why is that???

(10,274 posts)The longer point is they need data like this to fine tune their results. If you search for "democratic underground" and most people click on the eighth result then soon google will start returning that result in the top five.

(15,262 posts)I'm worried about the phishing malware that ask one to update Adobe products, so I always go to adobe.com to do it manually.

(450 posts)I run firefox and have flash player set to 'ask to activate' so when I visit a commercial web site I'm not waiting ten minutes for all the stupid flash ads to download and display.

(15,262 posts)I don't even see the ads.

(15,435 posts)Will check this out later. I'm so UN-techy I don't know what I should or shouldn't do most of the times. Have malware and AVG... but do get Flash Player reminders that say they will download in 30 days if I do nothing. That's on a Mac Book. But have a PC with Internet Explorer, so I stay confused!

(38,311 posts)It's a vehicle for delivering advertising and it's full of tracking software that benefits the advertisers, not me, the user.
If a site insists on using Flash then I probably don't want to see what they are selling anyways.
My life is really much better this way.
(I don't watch television either.)

(38,311 posts)Many of the sites I frequent, mostly technical websites, don't have pernicious advertising, especially when flash is unavailable to them. I do not begrudge those site owners their advertising. Crap advertisers and tracking sites I block with my own lists, partly because I'm interested seeing who is trying to sell me stuff or take a peak at my browsing habits. My cookie list is short, cookies don't live longer than a day, most of them less than that.
I don't use Microsoft or Apple products, I don't have anything Android, so it's not like I'm singling out Adobe. I do my best to avoid our "consumer" society. I don't want to be a "consumer."
I'd rather grow and make things.
