For all those posting about woody Allen and Dylan Farrow,

I don't know if you realize you are triggering some very unpleasant memories for those who have been abused. Even without reading what's written, the constant posts can bring back a lot of them.

This isn't some unknown hokum. It happens.

I would recommend that those who experience such triggers use the hide by keyword feature and use "Allen" and "Farrow" and maybe "Dylan". At least until this story is pushed off by something else.

And for those posting OPs about it, perhaps include "Trigger Warning" in the subject heading?

The responsibility, however, does not lie with unknown individuals on a public forum to self censor or to be unduly conscious that such discussions may trigger those with unresolved abuse issues. That is a level of mind-reading that is untenable.

The responsibility must lie with those who are triggered. They must use the Ignore and Trash functions provided by DU. They also ought not wade into such discussions where triggering may occur. In the same way, a recovering alcoholic avoids bars, a recovering abuse survivor must avoid their own unique triggers as well including discussions on public forums like DU and topics like Dylan Farrow.

You are going to make fun of me and other abuse victims?
I am not saying not to post about it. However, I don't know if people realize this.

If you think posting about food is analogous to sexual abuse, you need to do some research.

suggesting not discussing topics is a slippery slope (and counterproductive on a discussion board). Something is always going to be serious to someone.

Good luck stopping any discussion that might make someone uncomfortable.

talk and just take it, you become a victim. I used to think it would be good to get it out of the "dark alley", yet almost of it occurs behind home doors. When one does bring it out, in my experience, it has provided more subtle and societal ways of oppressing, punishing, warning, re-trenching the troops, and re-abusing the victim.

It was issues like this that made me a believer in Karma. If someone escapes their punishment in this lifetime, and the younger the victim, the greater the likelihood they will not be discovered or convicted, they will likely have many lifetimes in which to suffer until they get it right.
