Most Voters Not Swayed by Dog-on-Car Story

A new Public Policy Polling survey finds that 68% of registered voters polled said they think that in general, it is inhumane to put the family dog on top of the car, compared with 14% who said it's humane and 18% who weren't sure.

That said, when told by pollsters that Mitt Romney had done so, 55% said it didn't affect which candidate they would support, while 35% said it made them less likely to support Romney and 7% said it made them more likely to support him.

How many of those 7% said yes sarcastically, since it is a pretty stupid question. It reminds me of the George Carlin bit where he's asked the three stupid questions by airport security.

35% may not be "most" voters. But that's still a lot of voters.

8. Right? That's a hugely significant portion of voters...

...considering that it was a poll of all voters. I wouldn't expect Obama voters to change their position in light of the Seamus story.

11. I happen to be one of the 68% that won't change my vote because of this.

I do not believe there is anything any Republican could do to get me to change my vote, especially if it is something so utterly ridiculous as this is..

3. well, when you start off knowing you'd never ever ever vote for him..

I suppose his overt animal cruelty wouldn't make a difference.

But, if I knew nothing about him at all--even his political party or leanings, that story would cinch it for me. I'd bet when you splintered out the portion of the 55% who fall into the group that would never have voted for him regardless and then look at the 35% convinced purely because of the dog story, that would be quite a majority.

teenager GW Bush blowing up fish with firecrackers either. After he was selected, I wondered how he would amuse himself without a death penalty. Answer: Wars! Two of them! Blow lots of stuff up!

If Mitster were running as a Democrat (perish the thought, of course), I can guarantee you that his doing that to Seamus WOULD have an effect on my vote.

There is nothing more telling about the character of a man than how he treats something that is smaller and more helpless than he is.
