Really, what did the 1980 Olympic boycott change in the Soviet Union?
Answer: Nothing.

And if we had boycotted the Hitler Games...I mean the 1936 Olympics, we wouldn't have seen Hitler's Aryan "Supermen" humiliated by a black man.

competition on the day of their race, as a gesture toward Hitler's policies. Within a few years of those games, millions were dead because of those policies.
People make choices as to where to stand up and when to play along with the bad guys. Those choice are never forgotten but the names of those athletes who were not allowed to compete because they were Jewish have been forgotten. America likes to pretend they did not do that. But they did.

winning all of those gold medals that the 1936 Olympics had much more of an impact against the idea of German Aryan "Superiority" than if the U.S. decided to boycott the games that year.
