CAITLIN MACNEAL FEBRUARY 9, 2014, 10:29 AM EST
The Newark Star-Ledger's editorial page editor on Sunday explained why he had some regrets about endorsing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) in 2013, but stopped short of saying he would never support the scandal-laden politician again.
"An endorsement is not a love embrace. It is a choice between two flawed human beings. And the winner is often the less bad option," editor Tom Moran wrote in a column. "But yes, we blew this one."
Moran said that the paper new about many of Christie's flaws, but that they did not understand the extent of his corruption.
"Yes, we knew Christie was a bully. But we didn't know his crew was crazy enough to put people's lives at risk in Fort Lee as a means to pressure the mayor," he wrote. "We didnt know he would use Hurricane Sandy aid as a political slush fund."

(23,759 posts)it's a tort. A civil wrong, not criminal wrong. It's one thing to have a different opinion between private parties. These folks were giving advise on how to vote and you wouldn't believe how many people follow that!

(94,535 posts)...or is in only actionable when it's a position you disagree with?
I invite you to read the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

(23,759 posts)what I said, is if they endorse some one who in office breaks the law or is impeached or resigned in disgrace, then they are a sueable.

(94,535 posts)Are they just as culpable? Or is your position that they're too stupid to have made the decision themselves?

(1,443 posts)But what was so bad about Buono? All the article says is that she "wasn't ready to be governor" because Christie was unbeatable.
Why not just come out and say that they endorsed him because they knew he was going to win? There's no need for all this "lesser of two evils" stuff.

(297,196 posts)Christie did but that turns out to be a good thing for the People of NJ.
Christie was prepared to help himself and his toads.

(44,576 posts)You endorsed Governor Soprano because you didn't want to be on record as endorsing an obvious loser -- Buono's "flaw" was that not even the DNC thought her run was worth the effort. Now that someone else stuck out his neck and declared that the emperor has no clothes, you're reverting to Bush II mode and piling on simply because it's safe!
