I have no cable or TV. There is only my computer and internet connection . Apparently that isn't good enough to watch anything other than crash highlights (nbcolympics.com keeps telling me to contact my cable provider even though I don't have one). I had the same problem 2 years ago.
This is ridiculous.

(48,181 posts)the IOC long ago abandoned anything other than making the Olympics a huge money event.

(5,477 posts)The TV I get is over the air, and I don't pick up NBC too well. Back in the analog days you could at least watch through the static, but digital is kind of all-or-nothing...

(24,780 posts)Or possibly ATT Uverse. It's not NBC's fault that you can't stream the Olympics. Blame the provider.

(3,508 posts)& the blame for making it so difficult to watch online does lie with the greedy arise's in charge. There's no reason they can't expand the 5 min/day they allow non cable subscribers to watch. So classiest and greedy, effing lame!

(22,000 posts)If I want to watch football live here in South Korea that's pretty much my only option other than paying the exorbitant amount of money for the NFL Pass.

(3,508 posts)I was looking around last night trying to find an int'l channel that would have decent coverage, but no luck, yet, and I'm not very computer savvy anyway.
But we shouldn't have to jump through a bunch of hoops just to watch the freaking Olympics! Kind of takes away from the spirit of the whole event.

(8,155 posts)This is 2014. Everything is being streamed on the internet. Even the Super Bowl was streamed for free.
I shouldn't have to own a TV to watch a sporting event. The Olympics is the last hold out.

(45,319 posts)paints itself as some grand institution beyond reproach and politics. They sell this stuff to NBC to sell back to you. This is a key aspect of the marketing dynamo called Olympic Games. The IOC could sell those rights with conditions to stream rather than restrictions, it's a product, they sell it off to be portioned back to you under terms and conditions set by the IOC to a huge degree.
But you might want to get to a sports bar before someone mistakes you for a boycotter or other form of malcontent.

(3,998 posts)TVs were on the way out? The Olympics should be free and easily accessible to all...in the spirit of the Olympics, or something
Gravitycollapse
(8,155 posts)5 or 10 dollars should get me complete access. But, you're right, the Olympics is not supposed to be a business endeavor. The fact that it's been transformed into a corporate shit show is not in keeping with the Olympic Charter.

(42,239 posts)find a hosting site which will get you the BBC News home site which is bbc.co.uk without switching you back into the US site. Either that or the equivalent Sky News site.

(1,510 posts)the site is loaded with malicious ads and prompts you to download bogus codecs and an infected 'hdvideo player' installed without permissions. I followed a link there from a thread here on the opening ceremonies and spent the day yesterday removing 240 infected files and a bogus add-on in my firefox to get my laptop running right again.
