COPENHAGEN ZOO HAVE KILLED MARIUS the baby Giraffe.

A bid to save a young giraffe from destruction at Copenhagen Zoo has failed, and the giraffe was put down on Sunday morning.

Thousands of people had signed an online petitions appealing for a change of heart over the 18-month-old called Marius.

The zoo said it had no choice because of European rules to avoid in-breeding.

Marius was killed by a bolt gun, not a lethal injection, which would contaminate the meat.

1. I am a supporter of zoos, but this one needs to be shut down.

There were other zoos who cared enough to offer to take him. First of all if they were concerned about the in breeding the other zoos that offered to take him could have stipulated that they would not have used him for a breeding program. But even if they had no choice because of in breeding laws, it was completely unnecessary to skip anesthesia to feed the lions. They have a supply of meat they feed the lions. There was no reason to feed him to the lions.

of keeping the animal alive for its own sake, that the zoo in Copenhagen seems to make no allowance for. This story is going to really hurt that zoo and the zookeeper who made the decision, Holst.

7. The fact that they dismembered him in front of small children is disturbing.

All of the actions of this zoo has demonstrated a kind of coldness that I cannot really put into words. It's almost sociopathic.
