Discuss: Situation in Ukraine

I don't know much about it.

It is probably an interesting topic.

I know there are protests against the current government that Russia claims are all USA agitation (highly unlikely) and that, whatever our involvement or lack there of we think we have at least a strong rooting interest in outcomes.

And some Russian minister was talking about Russia invading/rescuing/whatever Ukraine in counter to claimed USA involvement in fomenting discontent.

And I know Ukraine is one of the more overlooked nations on Earth, being pretty big both geographically and population-wise.

She has been living and working there now for going on 4 years.

Her take is the Ukrainian government from the President down is very corrupt and being bought off by Putin.

She has told me Putin is an evil man and likened him to our Cheney.

Her opinion is not just an average one either. She has a degree in Foreign Service from Alma College in Michigan and had thought about working for an embassy for the U.S. until she realized that she wanted to be more of a front line person than an official sitting behind a desk.

It's an ugly situation and my hope is that the somewhere in the hearts of those in power realize what is best for the country is best for them also.
