NFL's Jonathan Vilma Afraid Gay Teammate Would Look At Him In The Shower (his "whole nine")

NFL's Jonathan Vilma Afraid Gay Teammate Would Look At Him In The Shower

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/05/jonathan-vilma-gay-teammate-shower_n_4732415.html

New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma might not be happy if a fellow NFL player were to come out as gay and wind up in the shower next to him.

Andrea Kremer, the NFL's chief correspondent for player health and safety, recently sat down with various NFL members to discuss the culture of the locker room. The men admitted to a no-holds-barred atmosphere, where the n-word flies and hazing happens. But apparently the possibility of an openly gay player in that atmosphere would "test the limits of tolerance," according to Kremer.

"There's such a stigma with gay and homosexuals within male sports," London Fletcher, Washington Redskins linebacker, said during the session with Kremer. "It would be very difficult for that first person to come out."

"I think that he would not be accepted as much as we think he would be accepted," Vilma added. "I don't want people to just naturally assume, like, 'Oh, we're all homophobic.' That's really not the case. Imagine if he's the guy next to me and, you know, I get dressed, naked, taking a shower, the whole nine, and it just so happens he looks at me. How am I supposed to respond?"

and the "gay guy" is fully clothed. Or just take care of yourself. He's not going to ask to scrub your back or anything else for that matter, honest.

Maybe someone can inform this guy that typically no gay guy (or girl) wants a straight guy (or girl)...another duh.

If you have to say something like "I don't want people to just naturally assume, like, 'Oh, we're all homophobic.'" you are generally actually saying something homophobic.

Besides I haven't ever had an instance where a gay guy was overtly leering at me, or trying to sneak a peek at me when I'm naked. Of course, there's been a lack of straight women doing that, so maybe it's just me.

a team shower room with a gay man? If you are going to throw out vague but negative remarks, you should clarify what it is
that bothers you about the situation.

Go Saints!

Old, expensive players, especially if they stick out and cause controversy (he already was a big part of bountygate) don't last long in the NFL.

He can watch is shower porn at home.

To play devil's advocate -- should women thus be fine with letting men shower with them at health clubs? Should these NFL players have the privacy to not be potentially sexually objectified by a person that is attracted to men?

Obviously the answer is simple, private showers. But sports are weird. They like their communal nude bathing.

It's usually guys who seem to think all gay guys would want them and start thinking there is some problem.

And most inappropriate ' attention ' is due to straight males toward females.
