He was 32. They hanged him.
-- An Iranian poet and human rights activist has been executed after his conviction as an "enemy of God" and a national security threat, a rights group says.
The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center said Hashem Shaabani and another man were hanged in prison Jan. 27, al-Jazeera reported Monday.
Shaabani, 32, had been in prison since early 2011. He appeared on state-owned television in 2012, where human rights groups said he was forced to confess to "separatist terrorism." He and 13 other people were found guilty in July of "waging war on God" and spreading "corruption on Earth."
Officials reportedly informed the men's families of their execution, and that they would be notified of their burial place.

Rouhani personally approved his execution- along with others on similar charges. Shaabani was imprisoned and tortured for years prior to his execution.
No, I'm not advocating attacking Iran. Yes, this makes me sick.

(11,804 posts)But all I find is links to stories about his death; I have to think that for any poet that would be irritating - to have people remember you for your death and not your words.

(961 posts)as his punishment, god shall be condemned to spending all eternity with his followers and may they all join him now! I know I would be in Rapture.
I too am looking for Hashem Shaabani's writngs. I have tried several stories about his death hoping to find a link to his work. Nothing yet. In the future, may Hashem Shaabani be known for his writings, their content and the price he paid for his art.

SEVEN REASONS WHY I SHOULD DIE
By Hashem Shaabani
For seven days they shouted at me:
You are waging war on Allah!
Saturday, because you are an Arab
Sunday, well, you are from Ahvaz
Monday, remember you are Iranian,
Tuesday: You mock the sacred Revolution.
Wednesday, didnt you raise your voice for others?
Thursday, you are a poet and a bard.
Friday: Youre a man, isnt that enough to die?
