For all of my snark, Winter Storm Pax is serious:

Pax?

Pink-winter storm warning
Purple- ice storm warning
Dark blue-winter storm watch
Green-flood warning
<snip>
Then things get nasty. The freezing rain is forecast to last as long as 24 hours, with an 80-100 percent chance it'll last 12 hours.

The official forecast calls for one-half to three-quarters of an inch of ice accumulation, but ice forecasts are difficult. The ice could cause plenty of problems in terms of power outages and road conditions. When accumulations hit more than an inch, the problems can increase tremendously because even larger tree limbs and even weak roofs can collapse.[b/b]

For instance, a storm in late January 2004 coated the corridor just south of I-20 with about three-quarters of an inch of ice and caused about $20 million in private insurance claims, about $28 million in government agency expenses and $15 million repair expenses by SCE&G. Tree damage was so widespread the state declared a forest disaster.

This is still morphing. Even with the dire forecasts, there could be small changes in certain areas that affect the outcome. They are notoriously hard to pin down exactly.

These aren't like some storms that roll in through areas with very low temperatures and have proven to be nasty. These occur in areas with temperatures on the edge of freezing with amounts of moisture that can be hard to quantify.

Even with all the info pointing to a dangerous mess, I have no real idea now whether the next day or two will bring pure havoc, mild discomfort or very little.

It's raining because the temperature is too high.

That will change and we are also going to get a double blast as Pax Jr. or whatever comes through too.

We're going to get 4-8 inches where I live, there are some years we get no snow or a dusting, so I am one of those people who make sure I got enough animal feed, people feed and water before a storm, I lost power for 3 weeks with Isabel, good that happened when it was warm.

6 AM Heavy snow now. Big, fluffy flakes. Lots of them. Pretty when it falls through the street light. Current temp 34.0 degrees.

and we made a nice transition from rain to snow... TODAY. Tomorrow is what I am worried about. Just a couple of degrees aloft will make a huge difference in what we get here on the ground. I live in a very old neighborhood with ancient pines and above ground power lines... might get interesting, but not in a good way.

This has been proven 'scientifically' by the weather fools.

My storage shed is still covered from the last snowstorm. I hope the additional weight of 16 inches of new snow doesn't cause a collapse. There is a lot of stuff in there.

Oh, it's currently minus 2 degrees outside.

I hope you don't get hammered!

We are very sensitive to ice here ... lots of pine trees and lots of above-ground power lines. This could be a big mess. I hope people get prepared for the worst.

I wonder what it is they did to piss off Republican Jeebus?

Too bad good Democrats suffer because of all the lustful money-grubbing sinners in that state ignoring the teachings of their own holy book.
