Rep. Phil Roe: Obamacare Shouldn’t Cover Pregnancies Because My Wife Is ‘Fixed’

Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN) on Tuesday said that President Barack Obama’s health care law should not force insurance companies to cover reproductive care for women because his wife was “fixed.”

Speaking at the Heritage Foundation’s Conservative Policy Summit, Roe told the crowd that he believed that the best way to provide insurance was through health savings accounts (HSA), and allowing people to buy high-deductible health plan’s (HDHP) across state lines.

“Right now, the federal government tells you want you have to buy,” he explained. “I’m going to be a little graphic here, okay? Let me tell you why that’s important, why that’s driven the cost up through the ceiling.”

“I have been fixed. My wife has been fixed,” Roe said. “Both of us have determined if we thought we had to raise another kid right now, we would jump off the Capitol, head first into the parking lot, face first. You got the idea, don’t want any more kids.”

Roe complained that Obamacare forced him to buy pediatric dental coverage, pediatric vision coverage, infertility coverage and female reproductive coverage.

I knew a crummy republican who had 8 kids in the public school. The minute the last one was a senior, he started complaining about his taxes being used for public schools.

Loaded headline.

I still disagree with him, but that's not a good way to put a story out.

and serious gunshot wounds cost the insurance industry. How about once he convinces people they shouldn't let pregnancies drive up the cost of insurance, he can convince them insurance shouldn't cover those other 'high cost' things.

Man has zero understanding of how insurance was designed to work.

This shows his, and in general the GOP's, contempt for women. Really Representative Roe - your wife is "fixed"? If I were her and found out you had spoken about me in that way, you'd find out about revenge being best served cold.

Since they both determined that they didn't want more children, perhaps the reason both got sterilized was that they intended to cheat on each other.

Since the TPers think that sex without procreation is wrong, he must be evil.

OBTW. Why should my insurance pay for their TWO sterilizations?

why did he think it necessary?? Most husbands I know have 'the snip' because it is nice for their wives. NOT because they hate children. Most of them say 'we can't afford any more kids'. not we would kill ourselves.

Is that these people OBVIOUSLY do not know how insurance works.

If he worked for a private company that provided health insurance, he would be paying for those same coverages, as part of the package. There is no coverage that lets you pick and choose which pieces you want and what you don't want. That's exactly the point.

Insurance companies spread out the risk pool and hope they're on the winning end.

Now if this couple is in a committed relationship, why do they BOTH need to be "fixed"? Usually only one of the partners needs to do this. Unless they both are fooling around, of course.
