Yea I know Obama's Admin is in the pocket of Comcast and his admin is stacked with corporate buttkissers. AND that Comcast is a monster ALEC corrpat.
But that's still no excuse for doing what can be done to stop this shit. Apathy on top of Obama's complicity won't help. DO.
Besides signing petitions, send the President/FCC/DoJ a personal letter or email about it.
Griping is one thing. We have good reason to grip about the corprats "cabling" our internet (the only way anyone has any way to communicate, share information and organize against them now). But don't JUST gripe. DO.
Seriously? Four Thousand Six Hundred Thirty Four signatures? If that's now many people give a damn about this effing merger, you expect them to even listen? Of course not.
NOT ONLY should you sign BOTH petitions, but you should SHARE THEM far & wide on what's left of the free internet. Before it's gone.

(94,520 posts)Seriously, I'm not clear why people are so upset, other than an abstract anger at big business. You didn't have a choice of cable companies yesterday, you won't have one tomorrow.
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)I can honestly understand your statement, however, I see the sky starting to fall.
Yes, I actually do have a choice of cable companies where I live. 3 that I can think of off the top of my head. All 3 are lousy, but it's still a choice. Those choices don't include satellite. If you add those in, I have at least 5 choices.
My concern is that this merger is the beginning of the end for freedom of information and choice for the entire country. We can stomp our feet all we want and cry 'monopoly', but I've been around long enough to know that the monopoly is an easy word to dance around when you have the right lawyers and a lot of cash. What 'could' happen and 'will' happen, I don't have the answers for. I'm not eager to find out. So, I have two choices, sit back and do nothing, or add my one insignificant name to a petition to slow the merger down, at the very least.
I don't necessarily have an 'abstract anger at big business'. I may be furious at how big businesses treat this country and their workers, but this doesn't filter into my concern over this merger.
I figured I'd get this in before someone came in to yell at you.
Happy Friday, brooklynite!

So many of the real-world problems we are struggling with stem directly to the inctreasing size and power and wealth of a few corporate giants.
I'd say it's a lot more than "abstract."

(8,821 posts)Monopolies have never served the vast majority of Americans. They only make the already obscenely wealthy even wealthier.
