Bad news for Republicans: Obamacare is helping their voters tooShe knows that her party wants to repeal it. "But I dont think theyre going to," she said. "There are too many people out there who need this and require it. She says her husband Ronald died last year from a rare sarcoma because he waited too long to see a doctor after he felt a lump.

Another Republican who wants to keep the Affordable Care Act is Mary Fallon of St. Petersburg. She was a teacher for many years, but because she was paid from grant funds she didnt qualify for health insurance. She had to buy her own policy, but then she got sick. Hello, pre-existing condition.

(16,230 posts)The problem for them is that that propaganda doesn't work so well when it flies in the face of actual personal experience.
The big risk for them now is that if they continue the propaganda people will finally see it for what it is. At that point people will realize that they've been believing information that's coming from sources that don't have their best interests at heart, and they'll start questioning the things they're told by sources such as Fox News.
If people finally catch on and right-wing propaganda becomes a lot less effective then Republicans are screwed.

(6,440 posts)Article after article, not just in the RW echo chamber, but in the "mainstream" media as well, saying "Once you get our voters sucking on the government teat, we'll never wean them off it. I fucking hate voters". They didn't put it quite like that, of course, but that was the gist of it.

(11,495 posts)Over the next year more and more people will find out that the ACA is actually good for them, and as the program gets tweaked, and the bugs get weeded out, republicans will find that they will never be able to get rid of the ACA, and it's a base for a real universal health care plan in the future. It will drive republicans insane, or more insane I guess!

(63,912 posts)It dawned on them that it would go the way of Social Security and Medicare...and be HUGELY successful. Progressives and even center Dems predicted this all along and voila! it has come to pass, exactly as predicted!

(3,184 posts)I can't tell you the number of times I've heard repugs say "We have a plan" without enumerating it. I'm so sick of them blowing smoke and never being challenged to detail the plan. I have yet to hear what they'll replace the ACA with at the time that they are repealing the ACA. If they don't replace it with anything they won't last until the next mid-terms. Far too many people will lose out and then we'll know who those "death panels" are really staffed by.
The MSM has given them a pass for 14 years. It's time for us to ask, loudly, rudely, publicly what those plans are, and how they are being prepared for now, rather than waiting until 2 years after some putative election 'victory' by the repugs.

(63,912 posts)it's getting seriously STUPID...
Once people figure out that it's working for a lot of average Americans, they'll see that they've been lied to, and they won't like that.
It will be reflected at the voting booth.

(81,527 posts)Glad you're here! Don't underestimate the Stupid. Because so many of these Pox Noise devotees and their families and friends have been so seriously inculcated with this poison that it's going to be a hard habit to break. Denial runs WAY deeper than we give it credit for. It's awfully hard to force yourself to let go of feelings and beliefs you've embraced and clung to for years, and had reinforced for so many years of this brainwashing. And that's what it's been. A relentless, calculated brainwashing. We have A LOT of work to do to reverse that trend - that's been at least 30 years in the making. The bad guys have a huge head start. But at least we're waking up and starting to recognize the need to confront this evil and defeat it.
And we MUST do so, if our country is going to survive.

Facts never did get in the way of any Republican! I still know national health would blow this plan out of the water. Quit paying for a middle man it that makes zero sense. One step at a time. Unfortunately we are at least 60 years late on national care that we mandated to Germany and Japan after WWII. Thanks Republicans!

Dr. Steffie Woolhandler is co-author of the new study Opting Out Of Medicaid Expansion: the Health And Financial Impacts. The new study just released has found up to 17,000 people will die as a result of the refusal of red state governors to participate in expanded Medicaid programs.
There are 8 million people who will not receive coverage under the new law that are eligible for it. Of that 8 million, as many as 17,000 people will die having not gotten the medical care those in blue states have access to. Another 750,000 will suffer from untreated depression, diabetics will not have access to medication, and women will not have access to pap smears and mammograms.
Woolhandler attributes this to a political move on the part of red state governors, as the program is 100% completely funded by the federal government for the first three years. After those three years have passed, 90% of the costs will be funded by the federal government.
States making the investment in their people will see an approximate 50% reduction in the number of people without any health insurance whatsoever.

But his rat bastid pals made sure that he didn't do time.
Really, that's what I think it boils down to with these types who call Democrats weak and effiminate. That when push comes to shove, we'll take care of them in spite of the abuse because we do believe in equal treatment under law.
And they are right, we do it for all, even though they hate us while we do it for them, too. Kind of galling, but what can you do with selfish brats?

I really don't know if there is a central ideology we can combat, I just know it's gonna take dozens of monumental actions like the PPACA to change their actual positions in the voting booth.
Until then, they will cheer every D policy that helps them while they yank hard on that R lever every 2 years.

It takes a long time for people to switch over something they've been doing their whole lives. Especially based on one issue.
When you meet people like this, the best way to get them to change their actual vote is to tell them to "Send a Message" to their own party by voting for the other side. And once they finally "get" the message, then go back.
Of course, given that Republican candidates refuse to get messages, that will become a habit over time.

BUT, he still thinks McCain was a war hero, voted for him and the dumb nitwit in 2008. Voted for Romney in 2012. Is pro- choice, pro gay marriage, against the US having military all over the world..

Then just imagine how they would explode their little heads - if or when the US got universal Health Care.... ACA is a step in the right direction - even though it is a small step in the right direction compared to a full blown Universal Health Care for everyone...

It must be horrible to live with the fear of not being able to pay your medical bills.. I have no clue how it is but I think it must be horrible...
Thankfully I do live in a country - who have universal health care - and the last year or so - I have ended up needing it dearly 3 times because of a condition I have with my kidneys - they are not to well - a infections at the right time - and I get really sick and end up in a hospital bed for a week... Not to say the time I got really sick - pehnumia and kidney failure a the same time.... I was able to walk out the hospital 3 weeks later - after a lot of medical attention - and not with a large bill who I would never had the possibility to even pay back the interest off...
I hope one day - that US also can have universal Health care as the rest of the civilized world have - it is many ways to solve it - but it have been solved to most country when it come to the first world country's... For goods sake - even Romania have universal health care - and they are one of the poorest country's in Europe - and they have also a lot of decent doctors to boot

It is sad state of affairs in the US this days - how horrible the mighty have fallen - it maybe have been that all the time - but now it is there for everyone who want to look at the misery - and maybe also do something about it...
I do hope US also will join the civilized country's of the world - with Universal Health Care at least - but I believe it will be a uphill battle - not easy won - as it was not when our parts of the world deiced it was a smart thing to have... It was many small steps before finally we got universal health care - where you can be given "free" treatments - regardless of who you are... Or if you are rich or poor...
