A former Hunterdon County prosecutor said the dismissal of an indictment against a local sheriff with alleged political connections to Governor Christie's office should be investigated by the joint legislative committee looking into the George Washington Bridge scandal.
Charles Ouslander, in a letter sent to Assemblyman John Wisniewski, D-Middlesex, said the committee should also initiate an investigation into the case involving Sheriff Trout and other individuals with the Hunterdon County Sheriffs Office. The letter was first reported by NJ Spotlight.
Allegations that the Attorney Generals office dismissed the case for political reasons and then fired former prosecutor Ben Barlyn for objecting to the indictments being thrown out have come under wide public scrutiny in the last few months.
Barlyn claims Trout had a political connection to Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, which is why charges against her were dismissed the Christie administration has denied any kind of involvement in the matter.

all of this would have come out after Christie had secured the Republican nomination for President and too close to the general election for them to run in a substitute.

when Romney didn't pick him as a running mate because of concern about his background check the Dems filed that away. After Hurricane Sandy when his popularity soared, they were probably sitting back thinking: Please proceed, Governor.
