You no longer have to be defined as either male or female on Facebook.
The social media giant rolled out a list of more than 50 different gender identity terms on Thursday, allowing users to enter up to 10 different options to customize their identity.
Users are also able to choose a preferred pronoun to be identified by on the site: him, her or them.
Facebook said the changes for the company's 159 million U.S. users are aimed at giving people more choices in how they describe themselves.

(13,081 posts)The world is filled with genders beyond male and female. That's a very narrow range of thought, and many cultures have a more nuanced paradigm beyond black/white, good/evil, light/dark, male/female, et cetera.
I heard a guy speak once, and the question he asked was something like, "blue is for boys and pink is for girls, but what about the kid that likes green? Or purple? Or chartreuse? Or orange?"
