****WCGreen Update -- Saturday February 15, 2014****

From his wife, Laurie:

Yesterday, Valentine's Day, Chris was moved to a step-down unit! He is in better spirits. He is in a single room and it is much like a normal hospital room. The biggest news is that Chris can have visitors, not just family! Boy, did his face light up when I told him. He is in Building G, floor 9, Unit 91, bed #20. He would love to see you all!

This is a big step, and one I know he is overjoyed to have!

Not sure what a "step-down unit" is, but hoping for the best.

His health has been precarious for a long time.

The "step-down" unit is where the patient goes after having been stabilized in the Intensive Care Unit. This is PROGRESS!

He is this much closer to being discharged.

Thanks for your good thoughts...

day she was to sign adoption papers on her son because of the same condition. They didn't have anything to help you then. I am so incredibly happy to hear the good news continue.

Her son, Kyle's adoption was allowed. He's about thirty something now. Send my best regards.

He has been through so much. I have kept up with with his postings about his condition for a while. He has had a lot of courage. Pass the word I say a big cheery hello.

Once he has access to his laptop, he will read your big cheery hello directly!

He has been through a lot, and he resisted the transplant for a long time. It IS scary. He did finally see that he would not live if he didn't get one...Now he has a huge chance at a more nearly normal life than before.

He'll likely be discharged from there if he continues to improve and is stable on his collection of drugs. I'd avoid the "y'all come!" because infection is something he needs to try to avoid and it's flu season.

Now kick him out of bed and keep him walking. Every step is one more toward walking out of that place.

I do think people need to be cautious about visiting as you say. However, he does need to see his friends; this will give him a psychological boost that will be very helpful.

As long as folks have had their flu shots and haven't recently been exposed to anyone who's ill, they should be OK visiting.

I know he is most eager to go home!
