Knox pinned murder on barman due to 'stress'
A recording of Amanda Knox being interrogated over the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher has been released, in which she says she blamed someone else for the crime because she was "stressed".
Speaking to police on December 17th 2007, six weeks after fellow exchange student Kercher was stabbed to death in Perugia, Knox said she implicated bar owner Patrick Lumumba out of fear.
I was stressed, I was scared, it was after long hours, it was in the middle of the night, I was innocent and they were telling me that I was guilty! she is heard telling police.
In that moment that I said Patricks name I thought that it could have been true, Knox said, adding that she couldnt understand why police were accusing her of lying.

(12,723 posts)If I can just blame it on a black guy the world will believe me because black guys do all the crime not pretty little white girls like me.
Why anyone supports this woman is a mystery to me.

(12,022 posts)The police found evidence of a black assailant at the crime scene. They asked Amanda if she knew any black people, and noticed that she'd texted Lumumba on her phone, about work. They suggested that Lumumba might be the killer, and after hours of them suggesting it, she said that yes, it was possible.

(1,665 posts)From what I understand, that's a common occurrence.
Police interrogations, while not as physically brutal as the witch hunts of yore, are still disturbingly effective at getting the accused to give false confessions, or name false names. Nowadays, instead of hot irons and stone weights, they use psychological pressure, and sleep deprivation, etc. to get a person to tell the police what the police want to hear, but the result is the same. False confessions, and false accusations are commonplace. People tell the police what they think the police want to hear, regardless of the truth.
