Chelsea Clinton: Gay marriage not the end

Chelsea Clinton on Sunday issued a rallying cry to gay activists, calling equality for members of the community the “unfinished business of the 21st century.”

“My mother has often said that the issue of women is the unfinished business of the 21st century. That is certainly true. But so too are the issues of LGBTQ rights the unfinished business of the 21st century,” she said in remarks at a Human Rights Campaign conference, according to a video on the group’s website.

Clinton’s remarks closed the HRC’s inaugural Time to Thrive conference, which drew attention over the weekend after actress Ellen Page came out as gay while speaking at the event.

“Changing laws and changing the political dialogue, while necessary, is insufficient to ensure that bullying stops, to ensure that every young person is supported by their parents and their teachers as they question who they are and they discover who they are, regardless of their sexuality,” Clinton added.
