http://intellihub.com/n-c-gov-pat-mccrory-subpoenaed-grand-jury-criminal-investigation/To no surprise, the governors name likely appears on some of those documents, showing that governmental corruption is currently alive and well in America. After all, not only did the governor work for Duke Energy for some 27-years before becoming an elected official of the state, but he knowingly accepted campaign contributions from the corrupt energy giant, likely in return for future favors. Some say that one of those favors the rather light $99,111 settlement recently imposed on Duke Energy (not yet paid) under the Clean Water Act for a previous 39,000 ton spill of fly ash.
I really despise this SOB. He's taken one of the Southern states where we were making real progress and turned it into a living hell.

(78,249 posts)the coolness might have started spreading from NC to its neighbors, resulting in the South finally rejoining the Union in a meaningful sense. McCrony, Art Pope, and their teabagger friends are ruining it.

(9,462 posts)be the catalyst with Christie of getting a constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United. When people realize it isn't just about using money to get elected, but rather using money to buy a candidate who can then give you your money back by negotiating a deal like the one with Duke energy people should be pissed. Taxpayers are out all the money for the fine. The same thing happened recently in...Ohio?

(10,303 posts)per NC Constitution. A hard-right politician, who aligns himself as a Republican.
But then with a hard-right legislature, I suppose it doesn't matter who would be governor.
McCrory being forced to resign would certainly help the Democrats cause for re-election.

(10,495 posts)we need complete campaign finance reform and publicly funded elections. We also need the Federal government to enact uniform voting rights so everyone in the country has an equal and fair path to the voting booth (where there are paper ballots)!

Two big demographic dynamics that will determine what happens in 2014:
Seniors. Republican incumbents trail Democratic challengers among seniors
across the Republican battleground. Thats right and the trend improves in each
poll.
Unmarried women. If they turn out and vote as they did in 2012 and in Virginia
in 2013, Democrats will make major gains. They are underperforming now at 52
percent in Republican districts, but shift 9 points after a health care debate, which
moves the race overall to even. That puts one-half of these 50 seats really at risk.

They're the reason I left so long ago. I knew the state didn't have a hell of a lot of hope as long as people let those pompadoured goons tell them how to vote.

"Jeff Brooks with Duke Energy Progress says deposit policies exist to protect customers whose accounts are in good standing from those whose accounts may not be in good standing. He says more customers are being hit with deposits because the company now automatically reviews its accounts, as well as a customers overall credit rating.
The charges are based on triggering events, Brooks said, such as:
two or more late payments in a year, even if the customer is only one day past due
a warning notice that the customer will be disconnected
any negative change to a customers credit history"
I think the Dems will need to link McC and Duke Energy over and over. In my lifetime I've never heard of the power company doing something this outrageous.
Everything else will help tremendously - We have got to rid ourselves of these horrible people.

(2,419 posts)the Christie scandals are important beyond NJ. People and the press need to root out unholy alliances like this and keep the pressure up. When its unacceptable or untenable for companies like Duke Energy to own politicians and use them to treat the state like a big garbage can, or line their pockets or any of the other corrupt practices, then things will start to change.

Oh yes, any tips on how we can do that from anyone who's involved in it are most welcome. Community organizing is part of my job, and MM is a shining example of how it's done.
