it is not 'the Ukraine'... it is Ukraine. just like it is not 'the Russia' or 'the France'...
to your question, Ukraine no longer has nuclear weapons... i don't think.

I fell into that trap a few times before I searched and found they'd dropped "The". It was referred to as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic , abbd to the Ukraine, pre 1991. The media remain inconsistent on the subject.

with 'The' in front of Ukraine. Neither the Russian or Ukrainian language have a comparable word for 'the'. I don't think they have articles.
