The phrase "Gender Wars" and how words matter

If you continually refer to what is going on as a war, it will react as such. If you are looking at this from the prospective that there is an enemy, there will be. We shouldn't be looking at our differences on this topic as a war, where there are winners and losers. If you look at it from that perspective, you've already gone into the discussion looking for an enemy and if you're looking for an enemy, you're going to find one and that helps no one.

I believe there are some people on DU that want this to be a war, where someone is metaphorically killed in battle--banned or shut up. No one likes when a mirror is held up to them and shown their faults but it happens. If you're mature enough, you'll realize what you're seeing and take that as an opportunity to grow and learn something. If you aren't mature enough, you'll perpetuate the idea of war... and I thought most of us on DU were anti-war so why treat this topic as such?

That's all I really have to say about the DU "gender wars."
