Blondo lanes reopened after blaze (1,000s of classic expensive silver age comic books up in smoke!)

The owner of a comic book store and his landlord stood in the cold and watched helplessly Sunday as a two-alarm fire severely damaged their building near 83rd and Blondo Streets.

The building at 8316 Blondo St. houses Dragon's Lair, which is owned by Robert Gellner. Andrew King, who owns the building, operates the Treasure Mart Collectibles store next door.

“I hardly know what to say, because it's really unbelievable,” said King, who acquired the building 22 years ago. “We had a lot of good stuff in there. Not anymore.”

Blondo Street was closed in both directions from 82nd to 84th Streets. The eastbound lane was reopened about 3 p.m., and the other lane opened by 4:30 p.m.
