In Front of 17,000 with Rep. John Conyers seated on stage, Farrakhan delivers hateful, bigoted

speech.

He railed against marriage equality and Jews.

what the fuck is Conyers doing there?

Farrakhan is crazier than a shithouse rat and about as admirable. No better than any other fundie hate filled fuckwad.

Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan says he considers himself in "good company" with auto pioneer Henry Ford, a leader who also "was called an anti-Semite" but who brought better housing to the people who worked in his factories.

Chicago-based Farrahkan has a long record of making anti-Jewish statements, and he referred to it Sunday afternoon during his Saviours' Day address at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena.

Farrakhan says Ford helped improve his employees' living conditions. Ford also promoted the idea that there was a worldwide Jewish conspiracy through his newspaper the Dearborn Independent.

In Detroit last year, Farrakhan denounced "Satanic Jews" and the "synagogue of Satan" that he said controls major U.S. institutions and said President Barack Obama has "surrounded himself with Satan ... members of the Jewish community

In a fiery speech delivered to 18,000 at Joe Louis Arena, Minister Louis Farrakhan blasted the U.S. judicial system as being biased against African Americans, calling upon the community to set up its own courts.

<snip>

With U.S. Rep. John Conyers, a Detroit Democrat, and Detroit City Council President BrendaJones sitting behind him, Farrakhan spoke for nearly three hours. He urged unity among Muslim and Christian leaders, saying that “Jesus and Mohammed would be arm in arm,” and he reiterated the Nation of Islam’s view that the U.S. is a land headed for destruction unless it starts to obey the word of God.

<snip>

Farrakhan railed against Christian pastors who endorse gay marriage.

“God has never sanctioned that kind of behavior,” Farrakhan said.

<snip>

On Thursday night, Farrakhan spokeswoman Ava Muhammad said that African Americans needed to separate because eventually, “planes are going to destroy every area that is not dominated by Islam.” She said Detroit might be the city Nation of Islam members choose to migrate to in order to form their own community.

She was referring to planes that the Nation of Islam believes are in a wheel hovering in the sky. Farrakahn referred to the wheel in his talk Sunday.

It's troubling enough that this clown gets any positive coverage at all. Now throw in the people that actually give him money in support of his insanity. There are a lot of unstable people in out midst.

Unfortunately, he has an audience today only because the disenfranchised are susceptible to these kind of messages.

It's an age old story.

Conyers is a career political opportunist, he was there for the easy crowd.

I'm not excusing any of this crap, I'm just not surprised by it.

13. The difference...

Feb 2014

Is that a room full of disenfranchised Black people in Detroit has neither the will nor the wherewithal to enact anti-gay legislation, either under the inspirational leadership of Louis Farrakhan or not.

And it's not as if Conyers is planning to co-sponsor any anti-gay legislation with right wing, Ted Nugent-loving GOPers anytime soon. Like I said, he was only there to press the flesh with the crowd. It was pure shameless political opportunism on his part, nothing more.

I seriously doubt if anyone gave a royal shit over his standard hate speech shtick in that audience.

Farrakhan is a clown, yes, but it's all for show.

If you want to see him go away, as do I, then what you need to do is to reverse the conditions of disenfranchisement and desperation in poor communities of color that invite these people to take advantage of them.

If we don't hold the representatives from our side of the aisle to a standard that includes not sitting and remaining silent when hate speech is present, what right do we have to go after the other side to do the same? Conyers staying quiet in the face of the hate spewed by crazy louie is beneath contempt.

But there comes a time in an ancient politician's career when shameless careesrist opportunism trumps decency and positive ideology. Especially, since he's in the House minority now.

At this point for Conyers, it's all about playing for the crowd that shows up.

I don't approve of it either. He needs to be replaced for sure.

So the 'minister' was speaking about current, local politics. There are results other than legislation which can come from incitement to hate one's neighbors. Don't you agree that hate preaching can cause some to go out and do harm?

And are ruling very much against the will of the people here.

But, I'm absolutely sure that Farrakhan did a lot of harm, only as the GOPers' patsy. But the fact is that he's an opportunistic outsider really isn't working towards his favor in the community at large.

It's not popular support for anti-gay legislation at play here, as local ministers have come out against the law. But Farrakhan wasn't the first religious ideologue to come out here to shit on our community with his bigotry, and he certainly won't be the last.

somehow I really doubt that. I am not saying they have done that, but they surely could do that if they so chose. In fairness, under the emergency management law they likely can't at this very minute but they were able to before that law and will be able to after the manager is dismissed.

The Family, as Sharlet noted, is a conservative Christian group that advocates "Hitler-" and Stalin-like" tactics - i.e. anything is permissible in politics because their goal is "righteous" (i.e. a Talibornagain-controlled nation.)

This nation is so religiously backward that politicians have to court votes from people who would make a rational person's skin crawl.
