Barbecue eatery owner, segregationist Maurice Bessinger dies at 83

(A relative of mine in Columbia told me recently that someone else had taken over as CEO and stated that
he wasn't into politics. Thank goodness...)

A Korean war veteran with a gentlemanly demeanor, a businessman who grew a restaurant business that employed 200 employees, a devout Baptist who supported missionaries abroad, Bessinger in many ways had a background as American as the finger-licking tasty Southern food his establishments were known for.

Mustard-based is how it's done in South Carolina.

It's pretty weird till you acquire a taste for it, but it's worth the effort!

Where I think he was working a story based in North Carolina or maybe featuring a representative from there, and he talked about the difference in bbq between the Carolinas - North Carolina's being vinegar-based. As he tried a plate, he would pretend to dry-heave and retch.

not impede their lives, is politics.

institutionalized racism is a political issue for most whites, but a personal issue to most AA's.
