Dick Cheney rips Obama for defense cuts: “He would much rather spend the money on food stamps"

“Absolutely dangerous,” Cheney told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “I, obviously, have not been a strong supporter of Barack Obama but this really is over the top. It does enormous long-term damage to our military.”

“They’re basically making the decision, the Obama administration, that they no longer want to be dominant on the seas and the skies and in space,” the former vice president added. “This notion that we no longer want to have a force that’s capable of any sustained occupation of a foreign territory, that’s a basic fundamental decision that drives — supposedly justifies this. But lots of times, you don’t get to make that choice. Circumstances will make that choice for you.”

Cheney said that his “old friends” in the Middle East had told him that they no longer trusted the United States to use military power when it was necessary.

“I think the whole thing is not driven by any change in world circumstances, it’s driven by budget considerations,” he insisted. “He would much rather spend the money on food stamps than he would on a strong military or support for our troops.”

As SecDef Cheney proposed defense cuts because of budget concerns. Then, after many of those proposed cuts were made during the Clinton administration, VP candidate Cheney criticized reduced military expenditures.

whenever I see Cheney...

Mine eyes have seen the orgy of the launching of the Sword;
He is searching out the hoardings where the stranger's wealth is stored;
He hath loosed his fateful lightnings, and with woe and death has scored;
His lust is marching on.

I have seen him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps;
They have builded him an altar in the Eastern dews and damps;
I have read his doomful mission by the dim and flaring lamps—
His night is marching on.

I have read his bandit gospel writ in burnished rows of steel:
"As ye deal with my pretensions, so with you my wrath shall deal;
Let the faithless son of Freedom crush the patriot with his heel;
Lo, Greed is marching on!"

We have legalized the strumpet and are guarding her retreat;*
Greed is seeking out commercial souls before his judgement seat;
O, be swift, ye clods, to answer him! be jubilant my feet!
Our god is marching on!

In a sordid slime harmonious Greed was born in yonder ditch,
With a longing in his bosom—and for others' goods an itch.
As Christ died to make men holy, let men die to make us rich—
Our god is marching on.

* NOTE: In Manila the Government has placed a certain industry under the protection of our flag. (M.T.)

It's all or nothing with that guy.

Reducing the standing force doesn't preclude maintaining a force capable of addressing immediate threats or the future expansion via mobilization in the face of a new threat.

Cheney has clear biases that parallel his conflict of interests with private military contractors who get rich handling logistical support of those armies occupying foreign lands.

Dear Dumbass Dick,

Neocons should shut the fuck up about "budget considerations", since you drove this country into a depression, doubled the national debt, doubled the deficit, started 2 wars with no intention of paying for any of it, then shoved a bunch of money in your pocket. Your excuse that "stuff happens" was bought by no one.

I have to say that I am completely puzzled by this man. Is he so insulated from the rest of the world that he has no clue of his own defense cuts after the cold war was over. I have come to the conclusion that people like him truly live in an alternate reality and he will go to the grave never realizing that there is another view of the world that he has no clue exists. This man has made so much money off the suffering and death of others. I do believe that he is truly evil and that he has no soul or compassion at all. This is a man who accidentally shot a friend and made his friend apologize. He is also a man who destroyed a life long friendship with Mike Enzi simply because his daughter chose to run for the Senate.
