Active shooter in San Diego

Officers have taken up positions around a building at 927 Broadway in the East Village where a man is in a third-floor window with a gun.

I know it has not officially become news, but given that it has closed down quite a bit of downtown it might be of interest to SOME here.

Sorry for posting non news.

Well it is over... that is that.

Medics have declared, police confirms to media that suspect is dead.

Now back to silly shit, like McDonnals expands their breakfast hours, NOW THAT IS NEWS.

I wouldn't have called this an active shooter from that story. He either shot himself, or he was shot by police. If you have more info that says he was an active shooter, you should have posted it.

The situation began when police got a call about a man spotted in a window with a gun. He was reportedly threatening suicide.

Police immediately shut down streets in the area, surrounded the building and called in SWAT. Some officers were standing at the ready with guns drawn.

Shots were heard just before noon and SWAT officers moved in to the building. At that point, the window was broken and the suspect was no longer visible.

Police later stated that the man was dead. Further details about how the situation unfolded at the end of the standoff were not immediately available..

and given the history here, I do need to apologize for posting non news. By definition, not on CNN it is not news. Since we are at the end of the line, we rarely become news.

Sad end. And yes I notice that gun deaths are not news but breakfast at which ever fast food joint is news. Pathetic indeed.

and it got a lot of hits.

This, well it is not news. So did not expect it to get hits. Will post another non news item in a sec... cause it might cause more non news in my local area. I know I need to make sure I have my foul weather gear ready though, strictly for the non potential news.

and that phrase never appeared in the link you provided. In fact, I never saw that phrase in any story that I read about this incident - just in your OP.

About 11:40 a.m., the man aimed a rifle in the direction of officers through a window or glass door near a fire escape, homicide Lt. Jorge Duran said. A patrol officer fired several rounds at the man, Duran said. It is not believed the man fired the rifle, the lieutenant said.

At 12:37 p.m., a SWAT team lobbed a flash-bang grenade into the third-floor unit, then stormed inside and found the man dead, Duran said. No one else was found in the apartment.

Duran said it did not immediately appear that the officer’s rounds went into any adjoining units. Hastings said the officer who fired his weapon is a 22-year department veteran.

It looks like a troubled and suicidal man decided to go suicide by cop. It's a tragedy on many levels.
