I think John McCain is probably a better person than Romney in some ways, and probably more socially moderate than Romney at heart.
But McCain is a fucking psycho. Him as Commander in Chief is a nightmarish prospect.
His demand that Obama specify in advance what the US will do if Russia invades Crimea is some of the most useless, short-sighted, arm-chair belligerence I've ever heard.
Does McCain know that we would probably then have to actually do what was specified?
Specificity would mean threatening minor stuff (since our bluff would probably be called), meaning our threat would be weak.
Specificity in threatening BIG stuff would have more power as threat but, as noted, we would be in the position of having to actually do that stuff.
NEWS FLASH FOR JOHN McCAIN: There is a reason some of the cards in a poker game are face down.

A firmer response to North Korea might have triggered a war, a war we would win, but not without paying a terrible price. Moreover, refusing to help ease the deprivations in the North, and hastening the collapse of the regime might have also resulted in war as the Norths last desperate measure, or at least a very messy re-unification with the South. Instead, we have sustained North Korea long enough for it to develop missiles that might be capable of striking the United States, and allowed it to proceed with its program to develop nuclear warheads. North Korea is still inexorably nearing total collapse, and its leaders remain quite capable of launching in their countrys death throes one final, glorious war. But now, they are much, much better armed.
Id institute a policy that I call rogue state rollback, said McCain. I would arm, train, equip, both from without and from within, forces that would eventually overthrow the governments and install free and democratically- elected governments.

McCain wasn't singing "bomb, bomb Iran" as a joke.
