Are herded away to be jailed. The optics of those protests don't fit well with Putin's carefully crafted propaganda.

firing tear gas canisters at their heads, sending in fully militarized police followed by front end loaders and garbage trucks for all the belongings?

Putin's an amateur at this stuff.

The Iraq war protests and the RNC protests were many times bigger than OWS and ignored completely. There was a little roughhousing, like when they arrested Amy Goodman.

But a few thousand people decide to shut down the Brooklyn bridge and suddenly the full force of the police state is mobilized. Who knew all you had to do was disrupt traffic? Apparently nobody got the message though, these new protests are pretty tame.

Or more likely, nobody wants to be shot in the head with a tear gas canister and arrested. I for one can't wait till they try those sonic crowd dispersal weapons! Immobilization foam! Microwave pain rays! What a time to be alive.

"Around 300 anti-war protesters took to the streets of Moscow in the last few hours.

They were protesting Russia’s build up of forces in the Crimea.

The action has lead to a full military mobilisation by Ukraine, with acting President Olexander Turchynov ordering the closure of airspace to all non-civilian aircraft. US President Barack Obama described Russia’s troop deployments as a “violation of Ukrainian sovereignty”."
