"Noah"
Son Of God"
Others...
I'm sure most here can guess my opinion of these over-written, over-hyped (especially that "Son Of God" movie,) films.
The right-wingers are going all out to promote the "Son Of God" movie.

(48,121 posts)Just to see how they were done. Though I won't see them at the theaters
More looking forward to the next Hobbit movie. And Captain America. Guardians of the Galaxy looks fun as well.
Watching the Stand right now, which is going to be remade and will certainly see that.
I don't mind religious flicks but prefer religious type movies that are based on, oh I dunno, HP Lovecraft

(2,961 posts)Lovecraft was a very religious man.

(14,449 posts)It was good. I actually thought it was better than the Passion. Everyone go see Non-Stop that is a great film .sorry to go off subject.

(71,265 posts)But I doubt I will bother even then. The Son of God had the devil looking like Obama and that turned me off.
I am all for religious movies but when they did that it turned me off.
Other than the flogging scene in Passion of the Christ I thought the rest was ok.

(14,449 posts)but I think they took it out because they have 10 hours of film to make into 2 hours. The focus was on Jesus' life with the New Testament more so.

(14,554 posts)depiction of the 'devil' having an uncanny resemblance to Obama and they then suddenly decided to remove it. Also, the devil does actually play a part in the tale of Jesus, so the "focus was on Jesus' life with the New Testament" statement doesn't make a lot of sense here. That's part of the story. And ... Jesus isn't mentioned anywhere EXCEPT the New Testament ...

I'm not ten any more.

(46,322 posts)It was more accurate than just about every other Jesus movie before it!
Israel was under foreign domination.
Secular rulers were kissing up to Rome.
Religious rulers were obsessed with God's name and being ritually "clean" or "unclean."
Anti-Rome terrorist groups spent more time fighting each other than fighting Romans.
Would-be "Messiahs" were falling out of the woodwork.

(154,021 posts)actually they had a showing of Son of God here at the theater for one of the churches. To hear the people talk about it was a good anthropology exercise. It is a different world they live in.

Not even when they make it to cable or satellite.
My mother, who is 89, watched Son of God and enjoyed it.
She is very religious.
My sister and her husband also watched and were shocked at all the killing. (I really don't know what bible they have been reading.) Maybe over the years they just forgot how savage the bible is.
They quit being religious when their pastor told them to turn their backs on the non believers in their family.

(7,960 posts)When the first few frames were shown I didn't know what it was--it didn't look like a Biblical story. The actors were wearing furs and crudely woven cloth not robes. It could be a different take on the story but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Personally I'd like to see someone make a film of the Epic of Gilgamesh, the flood and arc story that predates the Noah story and see fundamentalist heads explode.
I won't go out of my way to see it in the theaters though unless it gets the best reviews ever.

(41,694 posts)Changed it to the story of Noah and everybody thinks it's theirs.

(6,399 posts)I was tempted to see Son of God, to take my kids to see it since they loved Jesus Christ Superstar, but when I found out it was a reworking of the problematic TV series, it fell from my list. I'm exposing them to different pieces of various religions and doing a dramatic non-musical take would have been interesting if it was a bit more reality based I guess I'd say.
Noah is one that I'm curious about, simply because of the talents involved, but that first full length trailer just did not work at all. It's too "star" filled and hard to see past them into the kind of lives these people would have really lived.
