LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has discovered more than 50 new cases in the salmonella outbreak linked to Foster Farms chicken, according to the health agency.
Most of the new cases found between mid-January and late February were in California - about 44 cases. Arizona followed with three cases, Utah with two cases and Hawaii and Tennessee with one new case.
The spike runs contrary to the agency's Jan. 16 statement, which reported that new cases were declining and the outbreak was near its end.
More than 480 people from 25 states and Puerto Rico have been affected since the outbreak began in March 2013. About 13 percent of those ill have developed blood infections as a result.

(111,246 posts)It's hard to spot salmonella contamination in chicken. Fecal contamination in larger animals is comparatively simple.

Always rest meat after cooking to let the juices redistribute and the center cook completely.
I assume all chicken is contaminated. It's kept me from catching salmonella my whole adult life.

(13,574 posts)Being a bachelor she probably thinks I'm not careful. I'm a total Nazi about washing my hands in general but always when preparing food. I handle any meat and I'm washing my hands before I go back to chopping vegetables or anything. The other guy is Hispanic and his stuff is just awesome! He just got his citizenship not too long ago though he's lived here for most of his life. His dad is an old school Mexican and freakin' really cooks the real shit! Never had anything but a little heartburn from old Jose's cooking and it's well worth it.
