"SNIP..............................
Julie Boonstra's plight with cancer was badly exploited by the Americans for Prosperity in their new ad attacking Gary Peters. The AFP allowed her to say things that turned out to have a very different meaning than she thought, and as a result she looked rather foolish. AFP didn't care that they'd done this to her, because they were still interested in making it about Gary Peters and Obamacare rather than AFP exploiting a cancer victim for political gain.
Then the media started pointing out the flaws in the argument made in the ad, and the Washington Post fact checker gave it two pinnochios and even the state's political media were forced to pay attention. The conservative media, rather than pointing out how terrible it was for AFP to exploit Boonstra's cancer in the first place, have simply exploited her all over again, using her as a human shield against charges that AFP lied in its ad.
Here's a fairly typical response, from Red State. It links to and quotes an AFP press release masquerading as a blog post about Gary Peters trying to "silence" Julie Boonstra by asking that Tee Vee stations pull the ad. The rightwing media echo chamber picked up this line of attack, and repeated it and repeated it and repeated it and repeated it and repeated it. Did I share this one? If I did, it's only double shared because it's double awesome. So is this one.
A few other outlets put a twist on the story, saying that when Peters asked Tee Vee stations not to air a factually inaccurate ad that they were trying to silence her. Here is Fox New's Andrew Napolitano, who the other day accused Abraham Lincoln of unnecessarily fighting the Civil War, saying so. According to Napolitano, asking Tee Vee stations to not air factually inaccurate ads is a form of censorship that only a strongman like Vladimir Putin would try (I wish rightwingers would make their minds up on Putin, since they were just glorying him for waging war on homosexuals). Here's another. Here's another. Here's another.

(14,732 posts)4. Actually, the term was "hiding behind
a lady's skirt", i.e. shielding yourself behind Mom. Hiding under a lady's skirts connotes another form of usually unacceptable behavior (although very popular among Rethuglicans).

Didn't make the connection. Me and proper names.
